PdfCraft: downloads & first PDF workflow

PdfCraft is ArtCraft’s PDF workbench. Start with a simple page-management job—combining, extracting or reordering copies of documents—and inspect the saved result before relying on it for a form, signature or print handoff.

The useful starting point

There are official downloadable builds. The project still describes itself as alpha, so opening a PDF successfully should be the start of your check, not the entire check.

This is a source-based guide, not an independent PdfCraft installation or compatibility test. Release availability was checked against GitHub; feature and limitation claims are attributed below.

What PdfCraft is for

The official product page describes a local PDF viewer and workbench for reading, organizing, combining, splitting and securing documents. It also lists search, page rotation and threaded comments. These are upstream descriptions, not results from our own test corpus.

Page management, document authoring and page layout are different tasks. For arranging existing PDF pages, start here. For laying out a new magazine or booklet from text and images, see DesignCraft. Do not assume that a PDF workbench can reproduce a Word document’s layout during conversion.

Find the official installer

Choose either the Craft App Launcher or a standalone build from the official PdfCraft page. GitHub’s latest release was v0.6.0 at our October 11 check; the product page displayed an older version. Consult the release notes and asset names instead of treating a screenshot or old page label as a live update feed.

Select the operating system and architecture first. The release assets include platform-specific installers, portable packages and command-line builds. Keep the release’s checksum file with your download. If installation fails, record the package name and error and check the repository’s platform instructions.

Try a five-page merge and reorder

Use two small PDFs you created or are allowed to edit. Give their pages visible labels such as A1–A3 and B1–B2. Save copies in a separate folder so the expected order is easy to inspect.

Combine the copies, then move B1 before A2 and extract B1 into a second PDF. Save to new filenames, close the app and reopen both outputs. In another viewer, confirm the combined page count, page order, orientation and extracted page. If these checks fail, retain the originals and record the exact operation.

For documents with bookmarks, links or forms, repeat with a representative sample. Follow each link and inspect field values after reopening. A correct page count does not prove that interactive content survived. This is a suggested evaluation procedure; we have not run it in PdfCraft.

Where a simple PDF check is insufficient

The project README calls PdfCraft alpha and identifies gaps in Office conversion, editing existing text, some OCR languages, signature workflows and print or preflight capabilities. These limits matter more than a broad promise of Acrobat parity. Read the current gaps before assigning it a required job.

A drawing of a signature and a validated digital signature are different outcomes. For signed or regulated documents, confirm the required validation in the tool used by the recipient. A black rectangle over text is likewise not proof that the underlying content was removed; inspect the actual redaction result and extracted content.

Keep originals of forms, signed documents and print deliverables. Do not treat a successful save of one ordinary file as evidence about encrypted files, hostile files, accessibility compliance or professional print standards.

Why PrintCraft searches lead here

The old official /apps/printcraft address resolves to the PdfCraft page at our check. That identifies the present destination, but does not by itself establish a formal rename date or a second application. Our separate name note records exactly what can be verified.
